Artistic Dreams International (ADI) is a NYC and Mexico based interdisciplinary arts education program.
ADI is looking for a visual arts teaching assistant to assist the teaching artist in teaching children between the ages of 7 and 12 the skills of painting, drawing, and mixed media on Fridays at PS/IS 210, a dual-language school, in West Harlem. Our workshops are open to students lacking opportunities to access and learn about art, and the Instructor and assistant will be expected to guide the students through a curriculum (provided by ADI) in a particular artistic medium (photography, painting, installation, etc.) consisting of some art history, use of materials, self-expression, self-discovery, and exploration of family, community, and global issues.
Key Responsibilities:
● Arrive at the site no later than 15 minutes before class begins to help teaching artist prepare. This may often include setting up the laptop and projector for the art history lesson.
● Lead or participate in exercises at the beginning of the workshop.
● Help Instructor with disciplining children who may not be following directions and being disruptive; be willing to report behavior to any parents and to ADI Executive Director.
● Assist in cleaning up and escort children to the bathroom.
● Assist in arts program evaluation and make recommendations for new or improved arts program areas.
● Monitor and keep an inventory of all art supplies at the site. If material is borrowed from the school (paintbrushes, scissors, etc.), must ensure that it is returned in the same condition as they were before ADI’s use.
Qualifications:
● Be a practicing artist, art educator, or have some experience with art education or children
● Interest, dedication, and enthusiasm for improving a community through arts education.
● Excellent interpersonal skills and comfort in working with young people and adolescents, and effectively interacting with the parents.
● Ability to follow directions and communicate with professionals
● Fluency in Spanish is a plus.

Artistic Dreams International (ADI) was founded in 2011, to open up the creative minds of children in underserved communities where budget cuts to arts education in public schools have left a void. Our program addresses the academic inequity and drop-out issues in Harlem by providing interdisciplinary arts education programs to underserved, low-income students enabling them to discover and reach their dreams. Our mission is to nurture youth 6-15 years of age to become creative world citizens that can transform their lives and the communities they live in, through the arts.
Description
Since our founding, we have grown to offer a total of fifteen after school and weekend programs in both West Harlem, New York City and Sonora, Mexico. Our NYC programs currently include eleven visual arts classes and one digital art and coding class. ADI currently provides free arts education programs to Harlem and Northern Mexico children through the Global Citizens Through the Arts. ADI units focus on learning how to become world citizens through the arts, with c lasses including watercolor painting, sculpture, visual art, digital art and coding, international chorus, bilingual art and technology, yoga and dance, and theater.
