Loaves, Fishes & Computers (LFC) is a nonprofit in Salinas that is dedicated to changing people's lives through the effective use of donated, refurbished, and re-used computer systems.

Our mission: To help overcome the digital and economic divides by providing low-cost or no-cost computer systems, technology assistance and computer repair to low-income families, seniors, veterans, people with disabilities, and non-profit organizations, while providing volunteers a place to learn, share, & grown in the field of computer science & information technology.

LFC is always actively looking for volunteers and right now we are seeking help in all of our departments:

Burn-In

Position Description: Those placed in Burn-In follow quality check procedures and ensure that the computer systems are ready for use. Duties also include updating the software, adjusting the computer settings, and downloading the appropriate programs. Extensive software skills are a plus, as well as Windows Operating System knowledge.

Computer Refurbishing

Position Description: Those placed in Computer Refurbishing take donated computers including desktops, macs and chromebook platforms and makes them like new again. Duties include removing hardware, building computers to set standards, installing software, testing computers, ensuring documentation is recorded correctly, and more. Extensive software skills are a plus but not required, as well as Windows Operating System knowledge.

Computer Repair/Technical Support

Position Description: Those placed in Computer Repair/Technical Support assist clients directly and sometimes over the phone by ensuring that systems are running efficiently. They diagnose issues and make repairs to computers, processors, hard drives, and monitors. troubleshooting hardware and software on a variety of computers. They are tasked with maintaining computer systems, troubleshooting errors, maintaining internet connectivity, running diagnostic tests, maintaining servers, repairing computer hardware, and providing technical support. They will resolve any urgent on-site warranty repair issues and then tackle other repair projects. Previous experience with computer hardware is preferred and computer repair experience is recommended.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Hours: LFC is open Tuesday through Saturday every week from 11am to 5pm. The front desk is very flexible with hours, but we are asking for a minimum of 3 hours per week.
  • Bilingual is always a plus, but not required
