One of the special ways we are able to provide additional support and engagement for our Waveny residents and patients is through our Spiritual Services program led by our Spiritual Services Director, Danelie Millien. Opportunities to contribute to the spiritual wellbeing and pastoral care of residents takes many forms. If as an individual or as part of a group from your community of faith you are feeling called to explore this service/volunteer activity in any way please contact us!
We welcome the opportunity to discuss ideas and develop relationships and partnerships with all faiths.
Spiritual Services Volunteers assist with the following:
- Social visits for companionship
- Leading group worship - our schedule incorporates a wide range of faiths and traditions
- Attending worship to sing or play music
- Helping to transport residents in wheelchairs to services
- leading shabbat prayers or rosary
- Social visits for companionship
- Leading discussion groups
We welcome individuals from all faith traditions, visits from youth groups or Sunday School to share musical or drama presentations, formally trained chaplains, or those trained in Stephen Ministry and pastoral care or those currently training in the field to obtain additional experience in our nonprofit healthcare setting.
Our community incorporates several residential settings including memory care, assisted living with memory care, long term nursing care and short term rehab.

From at-home rehabilitation to long-term therapy and nursing care, hospice and everything in between, Waveny provides award-winning personalized solutions for patients of all ages. Our community outreach includes school nursing, community health screenings, health education and wellness programs. Over the past 110 years Visiting Nurse and Hospice of Fairfield County has helped thousands of individuals, and their loved ones cope with terminal illness with comfort, peace and dignity. Joining forces with Waveny in 2021 VNHFC enabled the Waveny volunteer program to expand to offer opportunities at the New Canaan Thrift Shop and as part of the hospice and bereavement support volunteer team.

Our Volunteer program impacts the lives of our patients, residents AND volunteers providing enrichment, social connection, purpose and opportunities to learn and grow while making a difference!
As a nonprofit organization, we are a mission-based provider of healthcare, housing and support services to approximately 2,400 people every year. Waveny relies on our talented staff and hundreds of volunteers to deliver the highest quality of person-centered care every day. Our Volunteer program provides a wide range of opportunities and flexible hours. We invest in our volunteer team providing training and mentoring to maximize the impact of the time and skills shared. We are grateful for our core team of volunteers, some of whom have been participating for decades, and we also welcome new volunteers and can incorporate what ever time you can offer.
