ORGANIZATION: Volunteers of America Northern Colorado Services

Meet Kurt and Dave
Kurt lives at home with his wife, Kathryn, in Larimer County. He has memory difficulties due to his dementia diagnosis. Dave is a volunteer in VOA’s Caring Companion program. He and Kurt meet up once a week for a couple of hours to visit, take the dog for a walk, work out at the nearby gym, or have lunch together. This gives Kathryn a break from caregiving and gives Kurt a friend to visit with. "Dave has been a bright spot in our week for more than a year now - my husband can no longer remember his name but always has a smile when he sees him arrive. It has allowed me to have lunch with a group of friends going through the same issues as me. Many thanks for this great program!"

Many Wellington families would love a visitor for an older loved one. Volunteer with our Caring Companion Program, lend an ear and share your interests for 2 hours a week! Volunteers DO provide much needed socialization and friendship, and caregiver respite. They DO NOT provide personal care, meal preparation, transportation ,etc.

Here's what other family caregivers are saying about their volunteers:
"Our Companion is the best! He treats my loved one as a true friend."
"Our volunteer is amazing, We love her so much."
"They laugh a lot. It's nice to hear."
"Our Companion is a bright spot in our week."

Contact us today to start making new friends, by making someone's day.
