Pacific Symphony improves the quality of life in Orange County by providing people of all ages and circumstances with lifelong musical experiences and opportunities to participate in the creative process. Over 50,000 community members from more than 300 organizations throughout Southern California benefits from these programs every year. Pacific Symphony produces Family Musical Mornings concerts, a series of six Saturday morning concerts that include interactive lobby activities for each event. The purpose of the lobby activities is to engage children and their parents in educational and entertaining activities that will enhance understanding of the concerts’ theme and musical concept(s). The Family Musical Mornings Volunteer plans and executes pre/post-concert family engagement activities for Pacific Symphony’s Family Musical Mornings Concert series. The Family Musical Mornings Intern supervises all presenters and volunteers assisting with lobby activities. Requirements:

  • Must be enrolled in a college and receive academic credit
  • Strong organizational skills and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent research skills
  • Capacity to quickly learn new processes and technology and to adapt quickly to changes in environment and situation
  • Prefer Music Education or Music majors, though others will be considered with sufficient background in music
Functions include:
  • Working with the Director of Education and Education and Engagement Manger to determine carnival content
  • Creating appropriate content for concert program
  • Securing high quality ensembles and presenters
  • Providing training and/or guidance to presenters and volunteers
  • Determining all necessary materials needed
  • Observing and assessing activities
  • Supervising crew
  • Managing Carnival Volunteer recruitment
  • Work with Heartstrings Coordinator to communicate shared volunteers
  • Working with Director of Education and Education and Engagement Manager to help achieve department goals
