Are you a Pokémon Master? Garfield Community Center is looking for a few volunteers to oversee a free drop-in Pokémon Club, where fans of the card game, cartoon and app can come together to play, watch the show and trade cards after school or work. Experience running tournaments is preferred but not required. Tasks include setting up games, teaching participants how to play the card game, monitoring game play, ensuring fair play and trading, facilitating conversations between participants and maintaining safety for young participants.
Pokémon Club is scheduled to run in the Winter and Spring Quarters on Tuesdays in the early evenings, with the possibility of expanding to more evenings or to Saturdays depending on popularity. The drop-in is open to all ages but attendance has primarily been elementary aged youth looking to learn how to play the card game.
Volunteers must be 14+ and apply through the Seattle Parks and Recreation volunteer system, which includes a background check. Apply online at seattle.gov/parks/volunteer/current-volunteer-opportunities. From here you will find links to the required Background Check and the Recreation Volunteer Application. On the Application, you'll add Jenn Romo as your staff contact and "Instructor: Garfield Community Center" as the position.
