High schoolers- Looking for a fun, easy opportunity to share a love of reading with local kids? Become a reader at our "Read with Me!" storytime! This intergenerational storytime event brings teens between 14-19 together with babies, toddlers and preschoolers to read stories together and enjoy the magic of a good book. Books are provided by Garfield Community Center; please contact the organizer if you would like to bring in a favorite book from your own childhood. Dates for this event are: Tuesday, January 28; Tuesday, February 25; and Tuesday, March 25th from 4-5:15pm. Service learning sign off is available if requested.

The free youth indoor soccer program at Garfield Community Center is growing rapidly, and we need volunteers to help our kids develop their skills and strength. Coaches lead drills, work 1:1 with students in need of individualized attention, manage equipment, oversee breaks and more. Knowledge of soccer rules and best practices is essential; creativity, patience, teamwork, and a love of teaching are ideal qualifications. Volunteers are asked to help out quarterly on Saturdays, for a 2-hour per week. We ask that you commit to engaging with the youth in a positive, respectful and encouraging way, bringing your excitement for soccer, and showing a passion for building up our community. The volunteer shifts offered are: April 26-June 14, Saturdays, 12:30-2:30pm And/or July 12-Aug 23, Saturdays, 12:30-2:30pm Candidates should be able to commit to at least 75% of class dates and arrange days with no class ahead of time with Garfield Community Center staff so we can alert families about class cancellations. Requirements: Fourteen years of age or older Ability to work well and communicate with a diverse group of youth with varying abilities Must pass criminal background check Coaching experience preferred

Garfield Community Center in Seattle's vibrant Central District is hosting a Mothers Day themed clothing swap on Saturday, May 10th from 12-3pm! To make our event a success, we need volunteers to support us with check in, sorting and placing clothing donations, keeping clothing tidy, and helping participants find just the right thing. This event is open to everyone and does not require a clothing donation to participate. Tasks Include: Registering Donors and Participants Helping Donors Get Clothes Set Out Sorting Clothes by Size Set Up and Clean Up Volunteers must be 14+.

This year's Big Day of Play is on Saturday, August 16th from 12 p.m.-5 p.m. at Rainier Community Center and Playfields. Big Day of Play is a celebration of our City’s diversity and it encourages neighbors, communities and families to have fun, build relationships and be active together. Volunteer groups will choose from one of the following volunteer activities during their shift: - Monitoring the Composting Stations - Field Activities - Greeter and Security Support - Surveyors/Data Collection - Water and Cooling Stations - Water Slide and Inflatables Crowd Support Service learning credit is available for students, up to 8 hours. Coaches are needed year round for a variety of sports in Seattle Parks and Recreation. Volunteers play vital roles in the implementation of sports program at the various community centers. Primary responsibility and task include: Plan/Coordinate practice schedule Facilitate team practices 1 or 2 times per week Manage team roster and meet submission deadlines Maintain positive relationships w/ parents, players and staff Track and Field Coaches are needed at Community Centers throughout the City.
