Volunteer Position Purpose:
Food spending analysis evaluation uses data to drive strategic decision making on the food shelf level and effectively promotes more sustainable and stable operations. Evaluating operations through a lens of economics and business practices opens the conversation to evaluate standard business practices and use of available resources to drive cost effective operations while also respecting and balancing the need for a client-centered and community-driven approach.

Responsibilities:

  • Data Collection and Synthesis: Collect relevant data and prepare raw data sets for evaluation
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Conduct data manipulation using Excel and Word to present findings in a standard format that aligns with Super Shelf food shopping categories and captures key metrics.
  • Identify Potential Next Steps: Develop suggestions that promote more fiscally responsible operations that also give food shelf customers access to healthy food that aligns with client preferences in a manner that is sustainable and can be used strategically in planning for future operations.

Position Requirements:
  • Comfortable talking with a wide variety of people to be able to gather relevant data for use in evaluations.
  • Basic proficiency with Excel and Word and has access to a computer capable of completing data evaluation and email capabilities - Experience with pivot tables is a bonus.
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, flexible work environment and take initiative to meet project goals
Time Requirements & Schedule:
  • Total Time Requirement: 4-8 hours per project
  • Project Start and End Date: Flexible
  • Schedule: Orientation and training typically available on the 2nd Tuesday of each month with some flexibility possible for individualized training at our FFEN Office: 701 North 3rd St, Mpls, MN 55401
  • Work Site: Flexibility to work offsite once oriented and trained
  • Status: Volunteer Data Analysist - Monetarily Unpaid

Description

Foundation For Essential Needs (FFEN) is an entrepreneurial, innovative and nimble nonprofit focused on increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of local food shelves. FFEN engages skilled, pro-bono volunteers to offer pragmatic, no-cost consultation and equipment improvements to food shelves adapting to meet the changing needs of their community. Since 2013, FFEN has positively impacted over 200 food shelves in Minnesota. This local work informs FFEN’s broader efforts in supporting both professional development opportunities and advocating for systems change at the local, regional and statewide levels. FFEN’s multi-level approach is essential to creating a statewide hunger relief sector that ensures both equitable access to healthy food and respect for the dignity of those who receive it.
