ORGANIZATION: Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, Inc

About us

At Catholic Charities, our vision is to improve the lives of those we serve, to empower the most vulnerable, and to help reduce poverty through quality, compassionate, and effective human services.

Our Refugee and Immigration Services develop programs, in partnership with refugee and immigrant communities, to promote social bridges and bonds, develop desired skills and cultural knowledge, and encourage US citizenship. Participants work to build the real-life knowledge, attitudes, and skills that they need to achieve success. When we accomplish this, lives are transformed and the benefits to the community can be exponential starting by improving the quality of life one person at a time.

We could not do what we do without the help of our volunteers!

As a volunteer tutor, you will provide guidance and support to 2 students (or in a small group) to work on English homework related to essay writing and grammar. You will work with students on their specific goals, acting as a positive and supportive role model to the student in a strengths-based approach.

By providing guidance and support to High school students in the Karen community, students will gain healthy study habits, increase their problem-solving skills, gain confidence in essay writing and English grammar, and furthering their academic success and college readiness. Both volunteers and learners will create positive relationships and participate in cultural exchanges which facilitates integration for both groups.

Am I qualified?

After School Tutor(s) must have previous experience in tutoring, teaching, working with children, or working with English Language Learners. This could be as a dedicated teacher, trainer or tutor.

Volunteers should be familiar with navigating the U.S. school system and providing guidance to youth.

Schedule:

A volunteer that is consistently available from 5-6pm on a weekday(s) of their choosing, to tutor 2-3 students at a local library OR a volunteer that is interested in putting together a writing workshop for a Saturday workshop for young adult students.
