In this volunteer position you will have the opportunity to serve our nation's heroes by being the warm, smiling face that greets Veterans and those accompanying them as the enter and navigate through the Minneapolis VA Medical Center.

First Impressions Volunteers: welcome Veterans, their family members and visitors into the facility; assist with questions; and, provide information, directions and wayfinding. These volunteers also go through a higher background check in order to have computer access to look up Veteran patient appointment information to ensure they are getting to the correct location. Volunteers are positioned at stations throughout the facility including the main entrances, elevator banks and satellite waiting rooms.

Volunteers must be able to hear and communicate clearly and have excellent customer service. Basic computer skills preferred.

Current need for First Impression Volunteers:
Thursday mornings 7:30am-11:30am
Thursday afternoons 11:30am-3:30pm
Friday mornings 7:30am-11:30am
Friday afternoons 11:30am-3:30pm

A resume is not required but can be submitted before or during the initial new volunteer appointment with CDCE.

Minneapolis VA Health Care System is a teaching hospital providing a full range of patient care services with state-of-the-art technology, as well as education and research. Comprehensive health care is provided through primary care, tertiary care and long-term care in areas of medicine, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, oncology, dentistry, geriatrics and extended care. The Minneapolis VA Health Care System provides for the health care needs of Veterans in Minnesota and western Wisconsin.

  • Orientation or Training
  • A commitment of 4 hours per week for a 6-month time period is required.
  • Candidates must pass a background check and complete required training including patient privacy awareness. New volunteers also must submit an immunization history and may be asked to complete a tuberculosis screening test.
