ORGANIZATION: Forterra

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

Help the Green Tukwila Partnership celebrate their 3nd annual Green Tukwila Day! The Green Tukwila Partnership works to restore Tukwila’s parks and urban forests for future generations - and we need your help! Volunteers will prepare Tukwila Park for the fall planting season by removing Himalayan blackberry and English ivy. All community members are welcome, and no experience is necessary! The event is family friendly and open to all ages. Come see what a difference a committed group of volunteers can make in your community!

Date: October 5th, 2019

Time: 9:00am to 12:00pm

Location: Tukwila Park

15460 65th Ave S, Tukwila, WA 98188

What to bring: Come dressed for the weather (rain or shine) in clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Wear sturdy closed-toe shoes (rubber boots, hiking/tennis shoes), long sleeves, long pants, warm layers and rain jacket. We’ll have tools and gloves for you to use, as well as coffee, water, and a mid-morning snack. Help reduce waste by bringing your own refillable coffee mug/water bottle if you have one.

If you are interested in volunteering for Green Tukwilla Day, email greentukwila@forterra.org for more information. We look forward to seeing you there!

About Forterra

Mission Statement

Forterra's mission is to act with immediacy to protect, enhance and steward our region's most precious resources--its communities and its landscapes. Since 1989, we have been working toward a future in which our children and grandchildren can experience nature in and around our urban environments.

Description

Forterra conserves land by working with individuals, companies and local governments. We strive to maximize the ecological value of land, while meeting the needs of landowners. We may accept land as a donation, purchase it, or transfer it to public ownership. We often serve as a broker to identify and negotiate the most effective ownership to protect important lands. We establish conservation easements to preserve special features. For each and every property, we explore available strategies or create new ones to provide permanent protection. Forterra has established a Conservation Agenda for our region, with specific priorities and methods for each type of landscape. Current initiatives include the protection of working forests on the foothills of the Cascades, and the creation of salmon sanctuaries along our region's highest quality rivers and streams.
