The park features lush wetlands, forests, and a serene lake that supports fish and wildlife. Join us on Friday, July 18th, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, as we work together to restore essential habitat in this unique natural area. We’ll begin with a guided walk through the park’s trails to see and talk about the existing restoration work. Restoration professionals will be on-site to answer questions about plants, restoration practices, and conservation efforts. This is a great opportunity to connect with nature, create community, and make a positive impact on our local environment. We look forward to seeing you there! What we are doing: We will spread mulch, remove blackberry or ivy, or pick up garbage (with grabbers). Let’s help native plants thrive! What to bring: Please wear long sleeves, long pants and sturdy, closed-toe shoes that you don't mind getting dirty. Bring a full water bottle. Hand tools, gloves, and snacks will all be provided, but you can bring your own if you wish. Remember to bring rain gear if rain is in the forecast. Safety Note: Remember that high heat and smoke season in Washington may be in full swing. To protect yourself, drink plenty of water, take frequent breaks, and consider wearing an N95 mask while exerting yourself outside. There is limited shade at this work site and no drinking water source, so please take the necessary precautions to have a fun time with us! Where to Park: At the Lake Stickney Community Park Parking Lot off Manor Way (13521 Manor Way Lynnwood, WA 98087) Where to Meet: Please meet on the lawn next to the paved parking lot off Manor Way. We’re excited to invite you to volunteer with us at Schibig Lakeview Nature Preserve. The preserve is parkland open space and is South Puget Sound Prairie, one of the rarest ecosystems in the country. This prairie is adjacent to 60-acres of wetland that connects it to the 61,000 acres of forest, woodland, and savanna at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM). Over 72 bird species have been observed on this property including nests from species like red-tailed hawks. Join us on Friday, June 20, from 1:30 to 4:30 PM, to restore essential prairie habitat. You will gain valuable insights into ecological restoration and our innovative approach to land conservation. We’ll start with a walk of the site and have restoration professionals on hand to answer questions about plants, restoration, and Forterra. What we are doing: We’ll be removing the blackberry and other invasive species along Clover Creek to help establish a healthy riparian buffer. If there is time and interest, we also will remove invasive species around the recently planted Garry Oak trees. It’s a great opportunity to look for birds, give back to the community, and learn about this special space. What to bring: Please dress for the weather (in layers to stay cool/warm and dry). Snacks, drinks, tools, and gloves will be provided. Where to park: Rainier View Christian Church has graciously allowed us to use their parking lot (12305 Spanaway Loop Rd S, Tacoma, WA 98444). Where to meet: We will be meeting on the opposite side of Spanaway Loop Rd S. Follow the Forterra Event Signs. Date and time: Friday, June 20, 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM Register and learn more here.
