Day Time Drive
"Truly do not know how I could have functioned. My health was deteriorating slowly. Every volunteer has been kind and compassionate...I wish I could somehow return that kindness".

If you have daytime hours on your hands and like to drive, this may be the right role for you! You would provide daytime transportation to seniors (age 60 ) and adults with disabilities in Wake County, NC. Primarily for medical appointments and other essential needs (e.g., groceries, drugstore, bank, social services, gov't offices).

Transportation is the most often cited unmet need. This program provides volunteer services for escorted and door-through-door transportation for medical appointments, prescription pick-up and grocery shopping. All riders will be able to transfer in/out of your vehicle. Transportation is done in your own vehicle and can take up to 3 hours per appointment.

You select the appointment that works best with your schedule. No fixed assignment; respond to the requests you want.

Drivers especially needed in eastern half of Wake County, OR volunteers willing to drive to where the need is located.

Mission Statement

The Center for Volunteer Caregiving is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to engage the community in providing volunteer services to improve the lives of seniors, caregivers and adults with disabilities.

Description

The Center recruits volunteers to help seniors (age 60+) and adults with disabilities, living at home, with tasks they can no longer do for themselves. Assistance includes respite care to family caregivers, friendly visits to the homebound, transportation for essential needs (e.g. medical appointments, food), and light chore services. We do not provide personal care or services of a medical or healthcare nature.

All volunteers undergo a criminal background check, character reference check, and must attend an orientation session. Group orientations sessions are generally scheduled monthly and ONLINE ORIENTATION is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please visit our website: www.volunteercaregiving.org

Our mission is to serve in all parts of Wake County to the extent that we can find volunteers.

In addition to individual volunteers, we welcome businesses and faith organizations to contact us about how we can create satisfying volunteer opportunities for their employees and members.
