Summary: The Employability Skills Coach position is an ideal volunteer opportunity for someone who would like to support the work of Literacy Services’ Adult Secondary Education (ASE) program by helping students develop knowledge and skills to be successful in seeking a career and attaining employment. Students in the ASE program are working toward a secondary credential (GED/HSED), entrance to apprenticeship or other employment-based training, or post-secondary education. While working on their academic goals, students also engage with our Career Advisory Service which helps individuals process information and develop a plan related to their career interests. Employability Skills Coaching is part of this service and a great way to "give back" by helping to ensure adult students are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to make a successful transition into employment and/or post-secondary education upon completion of their academic goal.

The Employability Skills Coach works with students enrolled in the ASE program, the Career Advisory team, and the ASE Program Director.

Job Responsibilities Include:

  • Developing and delivering one on one or small group sessions to adult students on informational interviews, employment interviews, resume construction, application completion, and communication skills and strategies for maintaining good standing with an employer and/or post-secondary institution.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication /coaching skills
  • Experience in teaching interviewing/communication skills
  • Interest in supporting the preparation of adult students through the coaching of employability skills including: informational interviews, employment interviews, resume construction, application completion, and communication skills and strategies.
  • Comfortable using a computer including Google Drive (Docs, Sheets, Forms, etc.) and email
  • Interest in an ongoing, minimum four to six hour per week volunteer position at our downtown location.
