Support Adults Learning English in Waukesha! Literacy Services is looking for community members that care about equitable access to education in Waukesha. We are seeking volunteers to work with adults to improve their basic reading, writing and communication skills. Come share an hour per week or more with a student and help empower our community through literacy. Volunteer Position Summary: Volunteer tutors will work in-person at our Waukesha location. Volunteers will provide support for students to improve their skills and reach their educational goals. Training is provided for all new volunteer tutors. Literacy Services of Wisconsin serves a socially and culturally diverse community. We strive to build a team of volunteers which is similarly rich in diversity. Estimated Time Commitment: Minimum of 2 hour per week with 6 month commitment Qualifications: Must be at least 18 years old Must be patient, compassionate, supportive, and enthusiastic Should be independent, resourceful, and creative Should be willing to learn new things alongside their student Must have valid email address, regular email access, and be comfortable using technology Role Responsibilities: Be reliable and inform Program Staff ahead of any absences Motivate students with positive reinforcement, patience, and enthusiasm Refer to training materials to hone skills and find information Ask questions whenever they arise; program staff are available to assist you Utilize resourcefulness and problem solving as needed Please email volunteer@literacyservices.org.

Literacy Services of Wisconsin is a Milwaukee based nonprofit that partners with motivated adults to provide access to quality foundational education and skills training so they can improve their lives, enrich their families, and strengthen our community. Literacy Services of Wisconsin is looking for a book loving community member to help us raise funds critical to adult literacy services by selling antique books on behalf of the organization . The volunteer would research our antique books, list them on Ebay, and then handle the shipping process once sold. This is a hybrid volunteer position where volunteers could research, list, and sell the books virtually at home but come in-person at our downtown Milwaukee location to collect and view the books. The volunteer would need access to the internet, reliable transportation, and the ability to use websites like Ebay and the United States Postal Services site. Estimated Time Commitment The volunteer can create their own schedule, but committing to at least two hours per week is preferred. The volunteer would need to be available to answer messages or bids from potential buyers within a timely manner. Qualifications: Must be at least 18 years old Should be independent, resourceful, and creative Must be technologically savvy Able to transport books from Literacy Services to the Post Office for shipping Role Responsibilities: Utilizing resourcefulness and problem solving as needed Researching and pricing rare books Photographing and listing books on LSW’s Ebay account Packaging and shipping books Please email volunteer@literacyservices.org for more information.
