Definition of a hospice volunteer: someone who wants to make a difference. Good Samaritan Hospice services patients in the six surrounding counties: Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Lawrence, and Westmoreland. GSH is looking for volunteers in any of the above mentioned counties who would be willing to visit with patients in their homes or facilities. Ultimately, these visits would entail providing companionship/building relationships with the patients and also give caregivers a time of respite. GSH volunteers play a variety of roles throughout our volunteer program. We're always looking for people who are pet or music therapists, who like to cook/bake, or who would enjoy helping out at special events. Not only do we serve patients in their homes, but our patients also can go to one of our three inpatient units in Wexford, Beaver, or Cabot for symptom management or respite. These units are also filled with volunteers who visit patients and families there. Whether our volunteers are holding a patient's hand, cooking a meal, praying with families, and much more, they all make a difference in their own special way.

Description
Good Samaritan Hospice provides compassionate, individualized care for people facing a life-limiting illness and their families. Patients living at home, in nursing homes, or the home-like settings of our two in-patient centers in Wexford, and Heritage Valley in Beaver, are cared for by family and loved ones with the support of hospice staff and volunteers.
People with terminal illness and those close to them have special physical, emotional, spiritual, and practical needs. Volunteers play a vital role in meeting those needs, allowing patients to live their lives as fully and comfortably as possible. Volunteers add a personal touch which assists patients and families at one of the most crucial steps in life's journey.
