Help homeless children with distance learning!

Homeless children are at an extreme disadvantage with the current distance-learning school situation, not having a quiet private space to study or their own computer to get online. BOSS has a special after-school program that is trying to help the homeless kids in our shelter navigate the new learning reality. The BOSS Children's Learning Center is based on-site at our Berkeley shelter - it was closed all summer but will be reopening to support the new school year, with safety protocols in place.

Volunteers can help with:

  • Monitoring the children's school/education goals in collaboration with BOSS staff and parents
  • Helping to organize indoor or outdoor (safely distanced) learning activities
  • Providing other support to the Teacher as needed
Qualifications:
  • Experience working with children
  • Knowledge of child development, nursing, special ed, early education, and related fields helpful
  • Sensitivity to the needs of children impacted by different socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds, including homelessness
