Want to make a BIG difference for children ages 9-12 who have a loved one affected by substance use disorders? Be a weekend-camp mentor!
As a volunteer mentor, you will support campers enrolled in the new Camp Mariposa program by:
1. Working directly with 2 - 3 youth throughout the camp weekend, six times a year, providing positive behavioral intervention and supervision, and participating in camp activities
2. Be present throughout the camp weekend from Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon, including sleeping in a rustic cabin with youth and being available as needed throughout the night. Breaks will be assigned in accordance to Washington State labor laws
4. Work as part of a team with counselors, cooks, volunteers, mentors, and program supervisor
5. Understand your role as a mandatory reporter and follow agency procedures to fulfill this role
We're asking people to commit to a full year, six weekends, but speak to us if you need some flexibility. First camping weekend is September 13-15, 2019. When possible, you'll be assigned to the same children the whole year--be a part of watching them grow strong and resilient!
You will receive training before each camp and lots of support throughout the weekend. You will work Friday through Sunday overnight weekends every other month in Yacolt, Washington. Please email employment@lifelineconnections.org if you are interested in volunteering!
Stipend is included for volunteers, plus all food for the weekend. Transportation can be arranged.
