Are you 50+

Do you want to make a difference in the life of a child?

Join our AARP Experience Corps volunteers and help children become great readers by end of third grade.

Volunteers work one on one with young elementary school students, helping them become better readers by using a structured session and materials provided by the program.
Volunteers will be helping kids practice reading fluently via a virtual platform in 2021-22 school year.

Volunteer 5 - 10 hours a week over several days.

No experience is needed - just a desire to make a difference, and a love of children! We provide dynamic and interactive training, materials and full support. Stipends are available.

AARP Experience Corps, a program of Metropolitan Family Service, is an innovative, award-winning national service program that connects older adult tutors and mentors to students in public schools throughout the Portland Metro Area.

Mission Statement

Metropolitan Family Service helps people move beyond the limitations of poverty, inequality and social isolation. We serve children, families and older adults in the tri-county area. MFS is dedicated to building stronger communities by providing services, connecting people with resources, and offering meaningful and rewarding volunteer opportunities.

Description

Metropolitan Family Service (MFS) volunteers serve in various capacities, depending on their areas of interest and abilities. Volunteers participate in on-going opportunities in one of three focus areas: helping children succeed, strengthening families and their connections to the community, and helping older adults and persons with disabilities live independently.
