We are looking for someone to provide leadership and supervision for our JAARS Sea Freight Shipping office in Waxhaw, North Carolina. This job provides a vital service for our worldwide operations.

Position Description

This person manages the JAARS Sea Freight Shipping department. This involves receiving, packing, and crating goods for outbound sea freight shipments around the world, as well as receiving inbound sea freight shipments from various locations around the world, and handling the shipment of goods to final destinations in the USA by land or air.

Position Responsibilities

Export

Advise Wycliffe members, field offices and partner organizations how to export purchased goods and/or personal effects the most economical way.

  • Communicate with members and field offices by phone, email, and text about shipping requirements in general and to certain destinations in particular.
  • Process vendor drop-shipments and repack and label goods. Communicate with members about the goods they have ordered to be drop-shipped to the warehouse.
  • Build and pack shipping crates.
  • Know about dangerous goods regulations, recognize dangerous goods and how to prepare and ship dangerous goods by sea freight (Training and Certification will be provided by JAARS).
  • Know about export regulation for vehicles (cars, trucks, motorbikes, boats, and aircraft).
  • Communicate and collaborate with other JAARS departments about shipping vehicles and aircraft.
  • Load sea cargo containers, using forklifts and man-power. Secure cargo to prevent damage while container is in transit.
  • Communicate with shipping agencies and trucking companies to secure economical rate quotes.
  • Prepare export documents and communicate with members and field offices about shipment details.
  • Authorize vendor invoices for payment.
  • Compile expense summaries to allow accounting to bill members and field offices.

Import

Provide assistance to Wycliffe members, field offices and partner organizations to import personal effects, aviation parts, printed material by sea or air freight.

  • Communicate with clearing agencies to clear cargo from sea or airports thru US Customs to our warehouse.
  • Offload cargo from containers, using forklifts and man-power.
  • Arrange trucking of cargo to owners' addresses.
  • Authorize vendor invoices for payment.
  • Compile expense summaries to allow accounting to bill members and field offices.

Position Knowledge Skills and Attitudes Competency

Basic management skills.

  • Good interpersonal relations.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to use computers with skills in programs like Outlook, Excel, Google Drive, etc.
  • Handy with basic woodworking tools, both hand and power.
  • Must be able to use these tools and equipment:
    Table saw, panel saw, portable circular saw, chop saw, drill motors (cordless and air), air nail and staple guns, common hand tools, and be able to drive Forklifts (Max capacity 5,500 lbs.) - (Training
    and certification provided by JAARS).
  • Practices a learning attitude and creative tolerance with differences while offering training and mentoring to those supervised or less skilled.

Education

High School education or equivalent.

  • Prefer a minimum two-year post high school or technical school training.

Experience

Several years of supervisory work.

  • Forklift certification preferred.
  • End user computer skills using mainly Microsoft and Google applications.
  • Basic carpentry/handyman skills.
  • Operates power tools and forklift.

Our campus includes extensive training facilities, an airport, office and commercial facilities, guest housing, food services, recreational areas, health clinic, on-site childcare, and youth and family ministry support for staff and partners.
