The Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) is looking for Volunteers to help out with History Mobile at the Kentucky State Fair. Our History Mobile theme is 100 years of Kentucky High School Basket Ball. Volunteers will greet visitors, answer simple questions about the History Mobile, and help run the interactive station. This is a great way to meet and talk to people from all regions of Kentucky.

Skills needed to be successful:

  • Must be friendly with the ability to talk with groups of visitors of all ages.
  • Someone who can follow directions from the KHS staff.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time (at least an hour)
  • Must be dependable and have own transportation to get to site or event.
  • Must be willing to travel with in a half hour to an hour distance at own expense. We cannot reimburse you but travel time will count as part of volunteer service.

  • Libraries and Special Collections housing more than 90,000 published works, 16,000 reels of microfilm, 200,000 historic photographs, 1,900 cubic feet of manuscripts and 2,000 maps.


Our History Campus
The KHS history campus includes the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History, the Old State Capitol and the Kentucky Military History Museum at the Old State Arsenal. The headquarters of KHS, the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History, was completed in April 1999. This 167,000-square-foot, $29-million facility in downtown Frankfort has welcomed more than a million visitors and earned many awards for excellence.
