This is an unpaid volunteer only opportunity.

Racers Who Care, Inc. sets up free "Quick Tips on Winning in Life" life skills Fild Trips to the National Hot Rod Association's Career Fair at its World Finals event in Pomona, California. RWC's Field Trip Program is not a part of the NHRA Career Fair, but our teens will participate in a portion of the Career Fair.

Even though Volunteer Match requires us to enter an ending date, we fervently hope that you will work with us in an ongoing, open-ended capacity.

You will work closely with RWC, following up on RWC's email queries to schools and kids' groups in Southern California, to inquire as to their interest in bringing teens to participate in RWC's Field Trip Program for Teens at the National Hot Rod Association's Career Fair on Thursday, November 9. 2023. This will take place at the Los Angeles County Fairgrounds in Pomona, California. Judy Strawn of RWC, has begun sending queries.

Though this opportunity is virtual, you will need email capability and a computer (if you also have a scanner that would be terrific but it is not a requirement) so you can be in touch often with Racers Who Care. Your contact person will be Judy Strawn at: racerswhocare@gmail.com. We touch base entirely via email. Judy will email to you lists of the entities she has invited and should be followed up with.

We are looking for volunteers who have unlimited long distance calling plans who can make follow up calls to our email messages, in order to:

1. See if the entities have received our email message, and if not, to obtain the name and email address of the appropriate person at the organization(s) to re-send the email message to;

2. If they received the email message and are interested, then find out how many teens they plan to bring; and

3. Provide this information to Racers Who Care as soon as possible, so we can add the interested group(s) to our Event Contact/Participation List.

This can be done with your own phone, during your own time, at your location; but, we do want it to be done fairly quickly, since very soon RWC will need to order tote bags and other event materials for the teens and will need to know how many to purchase.

If you are asked questions you don't know the answers to, simply tell them you are a volunteer assisting with this project and refer them to RWC.

General information about RWC, as well as photo essays regarding previous Field Trip Programs, may be viewed at our website at: racerswhocare.com.

Mission Statement

RWC's racing professionals are dedicated to making a difference for our next generation by meeting with as many children and teens as possible, using racers' own insights drawn from their experiences in the School of Hard Knocks on the Road to Winners' Circle to encourage them to explore their own possibilities and to instruct them in the practicalities of how to actually achieve personal dreams and goals, as well as advising them to avoid life's "potholes" in the form of drug and alcohol abuse and other self-destructive behaviors.

Description

RWC HAS TWO MAIN ACTIVITIES:

1. WE ARRANGE FOR PRO RACERS TO MEET WITH CHILDREN AND TEENS, NEAR WHERE THEY LIVE OR ARE BASED, THROUGHOUT THE U.S. TO SHARE "QUICK TIPS ON WINNING IN LIFE."

DRAWN FROM THEIR OWN EXPERIENCES LEARNED WHILE NEGOTIATING CAREER POTHOLES, ROADBLOCKS AND TRAFFIC JAMS, RACERS SHARE PERSONALIZED GUIDELINES ON HOW IMPORTANT KNOWLEDGE IS, HOW TO WORK WITH OTHER PEOPLE, HOW TO LEARN COPING SKILLS, THE IMPORTANCE OF TAKING THE LONG VIEW, AND OTHER IMPORTANT PRACTICALITIES AND LIFE SKILLS.

2. ADDITIONALLY, RWC IS ORGANIZER OF THE ANNUAL FIELD TRIP PROGRAMS FOR KIDS AND TEENS HELD AT THE ACURA GRAND PRIX OF LONG BEACH AND AT THE NATIONAL HOT ROD ASSOCIATION'S SEASON ENDING EVENT IN POMONA, CALIFORNIA.
