Women in STEM presenter
ORGANIZATION: Covington Library
Please visit the new page to apply.
Covington Library is seeking women working in STEM careers to participate in tEchQUITY for Her (https://1.kcls.org/tEchQUITY), a program series designed to make STEM careers more accessible and understandable to middle and high school aged teens who identify as women or non-binary, especially those from marginalized groups.
Over a 2 hour workshop, presenters will describe what a day in their job is like, how they got to where they are, and demonstrate what they do through hands-on workshops. As an example, one presenter is demonstrating the principles of chemical engineering by leading a 'potions’ slime making workshop.
Library staff will assist volunteers to plan workshops and the library will provide all supplies and handouts. Because the library has had success engaging underserved groups through wizardry programs, these workshops are themed "the Magic of STEM." No familiarity with Harry Potter or other fandoms is necessary, though.
