Volunteer Position Description:

To facilitate and Alzheimer’s Association affiliated support group for care partners and/or individuals with memory loss for the Alzheimer’s association Minnesota-North Dakota.

Required Training:

All leaders are required to attend training provided by the Alzheimer’s Association.

Qualifications:

• Motivated, resourceful and dependable and able to commit to at least one year.
• Positive & encouraging attitude and willingness to learn about others.
• Good interpersonal communication skills.
• Respectful of cultural diversity and possess ability to relate to individuals of all socio-economic backgrounds.
• Open -minded.
• Recognize and respond appropriately to requests.
• Empathy for individuals and care givers.

Position Requirements:

• Experience with and sufficient knowledge of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.
• Familiarity with Alzheimer Association and community disease-related resources, programs and events. Able to refer participants to Normandale Center social workers or Alzheimer Association programs when applicable.
• Comfort with medical terms and healthcare issues
• Awareness of community dementia related resources and events.
• Able to work collaboratively with Support Group Manager and Co-facilitator as well as any applicable regional program staff.
• Monthly group time
• As needed planning and preparation time
• As needed group paperwork and feedback to Support Group Manager.

We will pay $25 an hour for this position. - The support group is on Tuesdays from 12:30pm-2pm. There is an opportunity to be a fill in for other support groups in the event a facilitator is out sick or unable to come in.
