Elms Family and Community Services (EFCS) provides support services to youth, families and individuals in urban communities to assist them in overcoming social, financial and educational barriers faced, to gain and sustain long-term success. Services are delivered at local schools, community centers and other community locations.

The volunteer case manager will assist adult education students by assessing their needs, developing case plans to support their needs, monitoring plans and progress; identifying additional support services necessary to aid in both, short-term and long-term success, providing personal development coaching and making referrals to other agency services and/or human services providers in the community to ensure that all service needs of clients are met. The case manager will supervise case management interns.

Job Requirements

  • Must have 2 or more years as a case manager or alternative role working with clients in human services or similar field
  • 2 or more years of supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated exemplary interpersonal skills
  • Must be professional and polite
  • Demonstrated skills analyzing information, decision making, research, verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated skill motivating others
  • Must be available to meet clients at schools or community locations (e.g. libraries, community centers, etc.). Must speak English, but bilingual is a plus
Preferred Skills
  • Preferred experience working with youth and adult students

Education

Bachelor degree in Social Work, Education, Psychology or similar industry or a combination of education and experience

OUR HISTORY

Elms Family and Community Services (EFCS) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) community organization. The organization was founded in 2018 by Kimberly Elms, who serves as the organization's chief executive officer.

PROGRAMS & SERVICES

The organization provides youth, adult and family programs and related support services at local schools, community centers and other community locations to assist in closing social, economic and educational gaps faced by individuals residing in the City of Detroit and surrounding communities.

2019 GOALS:

  1. Increase academic performance for 80% of students participating in programs by one grade level or greater annually
  2. Decrease out-of-school suspensions for youth participants by 80% or greater annually
  3. Implement new model for adult education transition

2019 ACHIEVEMENTS Q1

  • Formed partnerships with four additional community partner;
  • Successfully launched Sisters Uniting to Win and Bridging the Gaps programs;
  • Delivered personal development support to 48 adult education students
