Washington English Center is a non-profit, community-based organization that uses volunteer teachers to provide high-quality educational services, access to technology, and life-skill programs to all adult immigrants in the Washington metropolitan area, regardless of ability to pay.
We are currently recruiting volunteer English teachers, one-on-one tutors, librarians, and office assistants for our spring term. The term began on April 8th and runs through June 30th so, if you are interested, don’t wait.
Our highest need is for:
- Career Exploration Teachers from 1:30-3PM Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday afternoons
We also have a need for:
- ESL Teachers from 2-5PM on Saturday or Sunday
- ESL Teachers and Librarians from 7-9PM on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday
- ESL Teachers and Librarians from 10AM-1PM on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday
- One-on-one Tutors from 1-2PM on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday
While our students come to class multiple times a week, we ask our volunteers to commit to only one day a week during each 11-week term. We provide teachers with a course syllabus and a textbook and use a unique co-teaching method to provide new volunteers with the support they might need throughout the semester. The WEC staff is also always here to support you with hands-on guidance. We have your back every step of the way!
For more information about our programs (including the times our classes and other programs meet) OR to apply, please visit www.washingtonenglish.org/volunteers/. We look forward to meeting you!
