America's Veterans have done everything asked of them in their mission to serve our country. We believe it is never too late to give them a hero's welcome home. That's why Gateway Hospice partners with the We Honor Veterans program to serve those who have served us.

Gateway Hospice is looking for volunteers, Veterans, and non-Veterans to help bring this mission to life. Volunteers will lead pinning ceremonies and deliver We Honor Veterans certificates to our hospice patients who are Veterans and/or a Spouse of a Veteran (as they made a sacrifice for our country, too).

We love matching veteran volunteers with veteran patients to provide companionship.

Volunteers will also be invited to our Veterans Day events and Veteran Ceremonies we have throughout the year at area assisted-living facilities, nursing homes, and senior centers. Please join in on our mission today - we will not be successful without the participation of a volunteer team.

We need We Honor Veterans Volunteers in and around Washington County.

We provide training, PPE and other safety measures to keep you healthy while visiting hospice patients in their homes or nursing facilities.

To learn more or sign-up to volunteer with Gateway Hospice's We Honor Veterans Program, please call us at 412-536-2020 or email Suzanne Ferguson at sferguson@gatewayhospice.com.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Mission Statement

"To provide quality end of life carethrough listening and education and responding to the needs of those we serve, our community and team."

Description

Gateway Hospice volunteers are the heart of our organization. Volunteers do a variety of different things that help promote our mission of providing quality end of life care. From providing a listening ear as a companion volunteer, to providing respite for the caregiver to go grocery shopping or to their own medical appointment, to managing special projects in our North Hills office as "behind the scenes" support. Volunteers also can get involved with our bereavement program, making phone calls to bereaved family and friends. Music and art are a powerful way volunteers can connect with our patients, especially those with dementia. Pets are welcomed to pay friendly visits to our patients residing in nursing homes. The possibilities go on and on.
