Position Title: Adult Volunteer, Rangos Giant Cinema
Supervisor: Becky Laufenberg, Rangos Theater Manager/Daily Point Person as assigned
Goal or Purpose of the Position:
- Be a part of visitors’ experience at the largest screen in Pittsburgh! Carnegie Science Center delights, educates, and inspires through interactive experiences in science and technology. The Rangos Giant Cinema will stay true to this vision by demonstrating technological and scientific advances in audio and visual experiences that are unparalleled in our region. Rangos volunteers will assist team members to ensure that every visitor coming into the theater and the lobby feels welcomed and enjoys a truly unique movie viewing experience. Volunteers will also have the opportunity to gain customer service skills and experience.
Responsibilities:
- Greet visitors in a friendly manner
- Gain familiarity with concession stand products and movie content
- Answer basic questions about Carnegie Science Center and the Rangos Giant Cinema, including showtimes and movie content
- Keep the concession lobby free of trash and popcorn and assist in cleaning the theater after showtimes
- Learn the glasses cleaning room procedures to assist in washing 3D glasses for each show
- Help take tickets, hand out 3D glasses, assist those who may have accessible needs
- Assist with concession stand opening and closing procedures as needed
Time Commitment:
- Minimum 4-hour per week+ mandatory orientation. Shifts are available 7 days a week from 10-2 and 1-5. Volunteers are required to commit to one 4-hour shift/week at the same time on the same day. Exceptions can be made with prior Supervisor consent.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Must be comfortable speaking to visitors at any time, occasionally without prompting
- Must be comfortable working with both large and small visitor numbers
- Best fit for applicants interested in Science, Informal Education, Customer Service, Science Communication and or working with children/families
Desired:
- Outgoing personality
- Willingness to go beyond comfort zone
- Interest and desire to improve customer service, public speaking and other workplace skills

Clearances
- Upon acceptance into the program, all volunteers are required to provide and pay for background checks and clearances. Act 33 and 34 Clearances are free for volunteers.
- Volunteers who have lived in Pennsylvania for at least 10 years must have their Child Abuse History Clearance (Act 33) and Criminal Record Check Clearance (Act 34).
- Volunteers who have lived in Pennsylvania for less than 10 years must have their Child Abuse History Clearance (Act 33) and Criminal Record Check Clearance (Act 34) plus an FBI Fingerprint Clearance (Act 114).
