Organization Summary: The Arc Minnesota is a non-profit grassroots advocacy organization serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. Intellectual and developmental disabilities include Down syndrome, autism, fetal alcohol spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy and related conditions. The Arc helps people address issues such as early intervention, education, transition to adulthood, employment, housing, health care, guardianship, transportation, supports available to families/caregivers and on policy issues at local, state and national levels.
Position Summary: Assist with planning, preparation, and distribution of Arc information, services, and programs to participants in the Hmong community and with outreach and advocacy efforts. Make contacts, keep records, gather data and conduct evaluations to ensure The Arc is reaching all constituents and meeting their needs. Intern is expected to demonstrate competence within the areas of communication, problem solving, flexibility, job knowledge, time management, interpersonal relations, ethics, and leadership skills.
Responsibilities:
- Assist staff in expanding Arc programs and services to Hmong speaking communities; i.e. IEP development, health care access, housing access, accessing county services/waivers, etc.
- Conduct evaluations of Arc advocacy efforts with the Hmong community to ensure needs are met
- Assist staff in identifying and recruiting Hmong speaking volunteers and resources
- Assist with Hmong networking groups and initiatives, community meetings and events
- Identify items to be posted on The Arc’s Facebook page and other social media modalities
- Cross-collaborate with New Media Intern and/or supervisor to update social media platforms
- Participate in the annual evaluation of The Arc information, programs and services
- Participate in other The Arc activities, interests, or initiatives as deemed appropriate
- A written recap of their experience and what they learned from their internship with Arc

A Hmong speaking and outreach focused position available May/June - end of August 2019. Must be available 2-3 days and 10-12 hours a week. Hours are Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm with occasional evenings and weekends if needed.
