Join the Inova Healthy Plate Club at Creekside Community Center in Mount Vernon this spring! For eight weeks, 4 th and 5 th grade students will learn about healthy eating through games, activities and cooking. Volunteers will help students cook recipes like kale chips, breakfast burritos, egg muffins, and cauliflower nugget. Activities include measuring the sugar in soda and sports drinks, making a MyPlate craft, and planting basil to take home.
To comply with community center policies, volunteers will do a background check at no cost to you. Volunteers are asked to commit to three or more classes at this school.

Description
The Inova Healthy Plate Club is an obesity prevention program for low-income children in Fairfax and Loudoun counties and the city of Alexandria. Through creative taste tests and educational activities, the program aims to increase vegetable consumption, decrease sugary beverage consumption, and teach kids how to make healthy choices on a day-to-day basis.
