Would you like to help assess and understand issues pertaining to alcohol, tobacco and other drugs (ATOD) in your community? Would you like to make observations and report on establishments selling alcohol? Are you 21 years old?

We are looking for volunteers to conduct various community assessments in the North Central region that will provide insight to the community’s understanding of local and regional ATOD issues pertaining to underage drinking, over-concentration of alcohol businesses, youth access to and use of marijuana, misuse of prescription drugs, meth and other synthetic drugs, and neighbor safety.

Volunteer Time Commitment
  • Length of service: starts immediately; ends on 5/31/19
  • Typical hours: Monday - Friday, 9 am - 5 pm and/or weekends, 11 am - 6 pm
  • Minimum number of hours per week: 12
What can you expect to do?
  • Conduct community assessments for ATOD specific outcomes/behaviors
  • Conduct risk assessments of alcohol establishments, using an app to record standard of service of alcohol beverages.
Preferred Qualifications/Skills - These are not required, but preferred
  • Bachelor's degree, or working towards a degree, in public/global health, sciences, social work or child development - candidates with some college background will also be considered.
  • Experience working with children/youth, or involvement in youth-focused issues
  • Experience in social work
  • Experience in marketing
  • Willingness and comfort talking to people
  • Friendly and approachable to others
  • Attention to detail
  • Bilingual (Spanish, Vietnamese or Tagalog)

4775 Viewridge Avenue San Diego, CA 92123 AND various schools and businesses within north central neighborhoods.

Program Overview
Alcohol Tobacco and Other Drug Prevention Program (ATOD) - North Central: designed to incorporate the concept of community partnerships, the application of new, science-based knowledge of alcohol, tobacco and other drug problem reduction, and the development of a system-wide, prevention strategy to address the trends of ATOD among teens in San Diego County. Mobilizing residents of the community is essential to affect environmental and systems change.
