Save the Date! - Celebrate Coastal Cleanup Day at Richardson Bay Audubon Center & Sanctuary on September 21, 2019.

Why participate in this? Trash harms the health of the ocean and its marine life. We have a lot of trash that wash up on our shore, this can choke or entangle marine life and birds.

Volunteers that participate in this event will be acting "citizen scientists", tallying the items they find on data cards. This information will be used to identify the sources of marine debris, examine trends in debris items, and increase awareness about the threats of marine debris.

Meeting location: Meet at Richardson Bay Audubon Center and Sanctuary’s Lyford House, a big Victorian yellow house visible from the parking lot (Address: 376 Greenwood Beach Road, Tiburon CA). Park in the gravel lots facing the Bay. Exit your vehicle, turn towards the west (facing the bay/big Victorian house), walk through the iron gate, and head down the hill to the Lyford house. We will be waiting for you there!

Mission Statement

Audubon's Mission is to conserve and restore natural ecosystems, focusing on birds, other wildlife, and their habitats for the benefit of humanity and the earth's biological diversity. Richardson Bay Audubon Center & Sanctuary staff and volunteers focus on waterbird conservation in our Sanctuary and northern San Francisco Bay and use our site as an outdoor classroom to inspire and educate our community.

Description

With over 900 acres, including the bay’s largest marine preserve, the Richardson Bay Audubon Center & Sanctuary, located in Tiburon, California, provides a feeding and resting spot for tens of thousands of migratory birds, as well as a breeding ground for leopard sharks and other marine species. Moreover, it provides unparalleled public access to the mudflats and shoreline of Richardson Bay in an area otherwise dominated by the developed and heavily populated communities of southern Marin.

Since its inception in 1960's, the Richardson Bay Audubon Center & Sanctuary has welcomed and inspired thousands of children and families with its natural wonders. Audubon's Mission is to conserve and restore natural ecosystems, focusing on birds, other wildlife, and their habitats for the benefit of humanity and the earth's biological diversity.

Richardson Bay Audubon is a center and sanctuary of Audubon California and the National Audubon Society.
