ChickTech is a multi-generational community supporting women and girls to become technology creators.

We are dedicated to retaining women in the technology workforce and increasing the number of women and girls pursuing technology-based careers. We facilitate hands-on technology-centric events to empower, support, and increase the confidence of women and girls. Through our events, ChickTech builds community, empowers participants to see themselves as leaders, and provides networking and mentoring opportunities in the rapidly growing high tech industry.

We are looking for a Logistics Director for the local chapter of ChickTech. This volunteer role would be responsible for obtaining an event location for any upcoming events (kickoff, workshop, mentor match, etc.) and coordinating any logistics necessary to ensure the event runs smoothly. Other logistics include getting our students to/from the venue, ensuring they are fed while they are there, and making sure they have all the equipment they need.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Prior event planning or other project management experience a strong plus
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent problem solving skills, ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Good strategic and tactical thinking
  • Ability to work in a collaborative style and move others to action by planning, motivating and organizing work tasks
  • Excellent interpersonal skills that establish and maintain credibility and relationships

Key responsibilities include:

  • Finding suitable venues for various events
  • Coordinating catering and other food/snack needs for events
  • Acting as liaison between ChickTech and contact person of venue to address issues
  • Coordinating transportation for students to get to/from venue
  • Assessing and fulfilling any audio/video equipment needs at venue (projectors, PA system, etc.)
  • Working with Chapter Lead(s) on budget
  • Coordinating documentation of events (photography/videography)
  • Informing students of venue location, time/date, and any other logistical information
  • Creating/maintaining inventory of chapter supplies
  • As chapter grows, recruiting and managing logistics volunteers as they perform these tasks

Expected time commitment: 5-10 hours/week, but may vary. We ask that all leadership team members commit to one year of being on the team if possible, although less can be negotiated! Please be honest about your time commitments; while we realize it is difficult to forecast what you may be doing four or five months out, we ask potential leadership team members to try their best to upfront with any conflicts, either work or personal. Thank you for your understanding!

What’s in It for You:

  • An opportunity to lead a growing organization and change lives for Women and Girls in Orange County
  • The ability to build and strengthen your leadership skills outside of a traditional work setting.
  • Opportunities to network and build relationships in the Denver Tech and Education Industries
  • Opportunities to network on a national level with leaders of our sister chapters across the globe
  • Business growth and development experience
  • Invitations to speak at events, serve on other leadership and advisory boards
  • Opportunity to serve underserved and underrepresented youth in our community by providing them career and educational options and opportunities.
  • Volunteer Appreciation Events
  • Free Admission to our ChickTech Careers Events

The Process:

If you are interested, please complete the following.

  1. Fill out our Volunteer Application: https://airtable.com/shrUck8feob60z8kP
  2. Submit a cover letter to Sandra Johnson and Melissa Schwass at Denver@chicktech.org detailing the following:
    • Provide examples of previous work to support and retain women in tech
    • Provide examples that demonstrate your understanding and commitment to diversity and inclusion in the workplace
    • Your understanding of ChickTech and what problems we try to solve
    • Your understanding of this role and how this role will influence the problems we try to solve in question
    • Your understanding of what are some of the unique challenges high school girls face in pursuing or considering a future in the tech industry.
    • Your interest and qualifications for this role in particular:
    • What ChickTech events you have attended or volunteered at previously
    • Please include a copy of your resume in your email.

Leadership service for a nonprofit organization requires both a personal commitment and a time commitment, and we are no exception. We expect that the right person for this role will take the initiative to learn about us first (e.g. attend our events, be an active volunteer) and only after doing so, provide solution-oriented suggestions for growth and improvement.

Expect about a 4-8 week onboarding process. During that time you will be introduced to our chapter and expected to learn the ins and outs of our Chapter as well as our peer organizations.

We will have you lead events and initiatives to expose you to the values and processes of our chapter and make sure you are willing to do the necessary work. You will also be required to learn our Chapter Development process and make progress towards your Chapter Development Goal before becoming part of the leadership team.
