ORGANIZATION: Best Friends Animal Society Utah

Volunteer at Best Friends with Adoptable Cats

One of the most exciting parts of volunteering in animal welfare is helping the animals find their new forever homes. We are looking for a few kitten-loving and computer-savvy volunteers to help our 8-week-old kittens get ready for adoption! This is a very fun and very cute volunteer opportunity and we are excited to bring some new volunteers into this role.

Volunteers will help with computer-based data entry, prepare adoption information folders, assist with microchipping, and take photos and create bio sheets for each kitten coming up for adoption. This shift happens every Wednesday and Saturday morning, 8-10 am, right before the kittens come to the adoption floor for the first time!

Ideally, we are looking for volunteers to help with this task on a weekly or every other week basis. We will train you in every aspect of this. No prior experience with our software is required, but volunteers should feel comfortable handling (and kissing) kittens.

Comments

Dress code requires closed-toed shoes and pants or shorts (i.e. no dresses or skirts). This role is hands-on with the kittens and requires volunteers to follow strict contagion control protocol. Those with allergies to cats may volunteer but would be advised to fill the duties of this role that are less hands-on. Gloves and hand sanitizer are available at all times. Volunteers will be assisting with lifting, bending, and carrying supplies and cat carriers, up to 25 lbs. Attention to detail is critical in this role.

Mission Statement

The mission of Best Friends is to end the killing in America's animal shelters and create a time when there are No More Homeless Pets. We do this by building community programs and partnerships all across the nation. We believe that by working together we can Save Them All.

Description

Best Friends Animal Society in Utah works collaboratively with animal rescue groups, city shelters and passionate individuals who are all dedicated to the mission of making Utah a no-kill state. The Best Friends Lifesaving Center in Sugarhouse provides adoptions, animal fostering opportunities, and serves as a base of operations for our community cat and shelter support programs. Volunteers help us achieve our goals in many ways, including fostering animals in their own homes, distributing food in our Pet Food Pantry, keeping our center clean and healthy for the animals, spreading our message to the community at outreach events, and driving animals to where they need to go.

Best Friends Animal Society is a nationwide leader in the No-Kill movement. Founded on the idea that no animals should have to die in shelters while resources exist to help them, our organization began with the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, UT, the world's largest no-kill sanctuary for companion animals. Our focus on a better world through kindness to animals has led to a variety of programs, including efforts to end breed-discriminatory legislation and unethical "puppy-mill" breeding operations, advocacy of Trap-Neuter-Return programs for community cats, and rescue transports to help animals in overcrowded shelters find homes. We believe that together we can Save Them All!
