From getting animals to their medical appointments to pulling animals from shelters to open space for more animals, we have a greater transport need than ever before and that’s where you come in! The members of our transport volunteer team often assist us with collecting animals from shelters which can often happen at the last minute. Local transports : This involves getting animals to where they need to go and back across the valley. Volunteers can assist with dropping animals off for medical appointments and bringing them back to the Lifesaving Center, transferring animals to or from local shelters, or simply helping get Mr. Fluffy to his grooming appointment. Typically, these should only take about an hour or two out of your day. Long distance transports: Not only is Best Friends helping local shelters, but we are also actively pulling animals from rural shelters which opens space for more animals. These shelters can be several hours away, which can turn into a full day of driving. This may also include transport pitstops or helping get animals to a meeting point. Volunteers must be okay with long hours of driving and co-pilots are encouraged! (Human co-pilots that is - unfortunately animal co-pilots are a safety hazard!) What’s required: Minimum age requirement is 21 years old. Volunteers are encouraged to use their own vehicle, but Best Friends can provide a vehicle if there is not enough room in your own car. Volunteers driving a Best Friends vehicle will need to be added to our insurance. All volunteers must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Best Friends works hard to get every animal in our care into a foster home while they wait for adoption. The psychological benefits that homeless animals get from foster care cannot be overstated. Due to the number of animals who enter our program, we need help getting supplies ready to send home with foster caregivers, as well as getting some treatments and other supplies ready for the day. The foster supply prep volunteers will enhance our lifesaving capacity by allowing our staff to help foster caregivers quickly and efficiently, giving us more time to focus on the animals. Essential Duties and Functions Keep foster shelves stocked and organized Prepare foster kits for cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies as needed Prepare standard medical treatments such as enemas and calorie supplements Advanced volunteers may help with drawing up vaccines and preparing medications Additional volunteer opportunities at Best Friends allow volunteers to work hands-on with the animals after volunteers have attended special classes and trainings . Mission Statement
The mission of Best Friends is to end the killing in America's animal shelters and create a time when there are No More Homeless Pets. We do this by building community programs and partnerships all across the nation. We believe that by working together we can Save Them All.
Description
Best Friends Animal Society in Utah works collaboratively with animal rescue groups, city shelters and passionate individuals who are all dedicated to the mission of making Utah a no-kill state. The Best Friends Lifesaving Center in Sugarhouse provides adoptions, animal fostering opportunities, and serves as a base of operations for our community cat and shelter support programs. Volunteers help us achieve our goals in many ways, including fostering animals in their own homes, distributing food in our Pet Food Pantry, keeping our center clean and healthy for the animals, spreading our message to the community at outreach events, and driving animals to where they need to go. Best Friends Animal Society is a nationwide leader in the No-Kill movement. Founded on the idea that no animals should have to die in shelters while resources exist to help them, our organization began with the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, UT, the world's largest no-kill sanctuary for companion animals. Our focus on a better world through kindness to animals has led to a variety of programs, including efforts to end breed-discriminatory legislation and unethical "puppy-mill" breeding operations, advocacy of Trap-Neuter-Return programs for community cats, and rescue transports to help animals in overcrowded shelters find homes. We believe that together we can Save Them All!
