Alleycat Acres reconnects people, place, and produce with a network of neighborhood run urban farms. In partnership with Friends of Cascade Park, Cascade P-Patch, the Y, and thousands of community volunteers, we transformed this corner of Cascade Park into a vibrant community farm! We welcome volunteers to come visit the garden every Monday evening, and to take home produce in exchange for their help. We are so excited to be growing food with the neighborhood, and distributing produce to Immanuel Community Services food bank, Recover Cafe, and O'rien Center.

We need your help to keep things growing! We have a farm coordinator on site during open hours to guide work and share skills. Depending on the season, you can expect to learn how to:

  • plant and care for edible vegetables, perennials, flowers, and natives
  • build healthy soil
  • identify and remove weeds
  • create compost
  • and Harvest!

We will provide all the tools and gloves, but ask that you dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes.

We will have water available but encourage you to bring a reusable bottle!

Mission Statement

Alleycat Acres reconnects people, place, and produce by transforming underutilized space into a network of neighborhood run farms.

Description

In other words, we make farms happen. Food is more than what we eat: it’s a medium through which we can forge intimate, meaningful relationships between people and place. Farming is a medium that reconnects us, both mentally and physically, to our surroundings. Our entire operation is based on the collective belief that urban food systems are key in creating healthy communities.

Our produce is distributed between our volunteers who worked for the day and a network of agency partners including Food Banks, Supportive Housing, Shelters, and Recovery service providers. Join us at one of our weekly work parties at any of our four farms. All ages and abilities are welcome - our farm coordinators will be on site to walk you through tasks and teach you everything they know about urban gardening!
