Summary: Volunteer will assist program staff with class preparation, miscellaneous clerical tasks and float during work time helping students as needed, to ensure the smooth running of ELL (English language Learning) classes.
Estimated Time Commitment: Volunteers will commit to volunteering twice a week for two hours between 9 - 2 pm on Tuesday and Thursdays for a period of 6 months.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED and some college
- Basic level of Spanish speaking is helpful for answering the phone and taking messages and for helping students
- Able to use computers, copiers and answer phones
- Must be patient, compassionate, flexible and have a positive attitude
Role Responsibilities:
- Make copies as needed
- Enter daily attendance in our database
- Answer the phone if it rings during class and taking messages
- Float around the class during work time to help as needed, etc.
- Be reliable and inform Program Staff ahead of any absences
- Motivate students with positive reinforcement, patience, and enthusiasm
- Ask questions whenever they arise; ELL program staff members are available to assist you
