Position Function & Organizational Impact:

A critical step in helping to make Utah a no-kill state is providing residents with the resources they need to keep their pets with them in their own home. This avoids the pets being relinquished to shelters due to circumstances like temporarily being unable to afford pet food. As The Pet Food Pantry Lead Volunteer, you will assist with the operations of the pet food pantry by helping to complete pet food orders for pantry recipients. You will also be leading specific on-site volunteer activities, including weatherproofing outdoor cat shelters and bagging donated cat and dog food, to assist the duties of this role.

Shifts are Tuesdays 4-7 PM, Thursdays 4-7 PM, and Saturdays 11 AM-3 PM.



  • Fill pet food pantry recipients’ food orders.
  • Train and assist the Home Building and Food Pantry Volunteers

Core responsibilities:

  • Fill pet food pantry recipients’ food orders.
  • Move bags of pet food by lifting, carrying, and pushing on a push cart.
  • Update computer spreadsheet.
  • Keep pantry area clean and organized.
  • Restock literature in pantry area.
  • Train and assist volunteers with shelter making.


  • Warm, friendly, enthusiastic personality.
  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • Fluent in English, competency in Spanish is a plus.
  • Competent using Windows OS, and spreadsheet programs.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for the duration of the shift.
  • Ability to follow specific instructions from staff.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age to volunteer for this position.

  • Ideally we are looking for someone to come for one four hour shift each week in this role, but opportunities are available for sporadic help as well.
