  • 21 people are interested

Morning Bunny Assistants provide important care to our sheltered bunnies by providing them with food and water, and checking on their overall health.

Specific tasks include:

  • Giving each rabbit a papaya tablet (These are good for their health, but they think they are treats, and are very excited to get them - you may even get a bunny kiss as a thank you!)
  • Topping off water bowls
  • Providing more hay for each rabbit as needed
  • Checking to make sure each rabbit is eating a proper amount (we'll show you how)
  • Alerting a member of the medical team if a bunny isn't eating or appears to be having any other health problems (contact information for these individuals will be provided)
This position requires a commitment to one regular morning per week (e.g. every Friday), for approximately one hour, and for a six-month period. Orientation, special training, and ample time with bunnies provided. : )

Morning Bunny Assistants are generally assigned to volunteer in pairs, and must begin their weekly shift no later than 8:00a.m.

COHRS is committed to everyone's safety during the pandemic. As such, all volunteers working in the Bunny Barn are required to wear face masks, adhere to social distancing requirements, and avoid coming to the shelter when they are not feeling well.

Mission Statement

Rocky Mountain House Rabbit Rescue is a non-profit, 501(c)(3), rescue and educational organization. We rescue, rehabilitate, and find loving forever homes for abandoned house rabbits. We also support local rabbit parents by providing education on these often misunderstood animals and their proper care, and offering expert support for any physical or behavioral challenges that may come up.

Description

Rocky Mountain House Rabbit Rescue (formerly Colorado House Rabbit Society) is licensed by the House-Rabbit Society International Headquarters. We are a 100% volunteer-drive organization, made up of a diverse group of over 200 bunny lovers.

Our shelter is home to around 80 rabbits at any given time, each of which has been rescued from dire circumstances. Once they arrive at our shelter, every bunny is given a thorough medical examination, and provided with whatever expert care is required to help them recover from physical and emotional wounds. Once they are neutered or spayed, restored to health, and litterbox trained, we begin the search for the perfect loving forever home for each bunny (due to their strong need for social connection, bunnies are only adopted out as pairs, or as singles to be paired with a bunny already in the home).

We believe that every-bunny deserves a second chance, and are therefore a no-kill shelter. Each bunny receives compassionate and loving care for as long as it takes for their new human to find them. Our concern for the bunnies also extends beyond the adoption - we provide education on proper rabbit care for all adopters, 24/7 expert advice on bunny health and behavior for rabbit parents, and educational programs for local community groups.

We are a diverse community with one thing in common - we are all committed to helping rabbits and the people who love them. We welcome anyone who is interested in joining our community in this important work!
