Communities across the country count on the Red Cross for help every day-and volunteers are at the
heart of this support in local communities.
Red Cross Media Relations Volunteers serve as spokespeople, storytellers, and facilitators for T.V., radio, online, print, and social media!
Responsibilities:
Serve on-call in shifts to share information with Red Cross leadership on small-to-large incidents
Represent Red Cross as media spokesperson for local news outlets in person and/or over the phone
Work with chapter and regional leadership to write and pitch stories to local media
Showcase Red Cross services, events, and programs at events, training, interviews, etc.
Write and distribute media advisories and news releases
Deploy to disaster scenes to perform on-site media relations if needed, including on-camera interviews
Gather client stories, at times working with other communications staff, photographers, etc.
Connect with people on national deployments with the media for interview opportunities
Attend and participate in regularly scheduled Public Affairs meetings (in person or via phone calls)
Qualifications:
Will be asked to submit examples of media experience (writing, on-air clips, etc.)
Education or professional background in Journalism, Media Relations, Public Relations, Communications, or similar experience
