ORGANIZATION: IECC Adult Volunteer Literacy Program

Volunteer Literacy Tutor
will be carefully matched with adult students, provided with all the necessary information and educational materials to assist the learner achieve their goals, will tutor students on a scheduled basis throughout the community (never in a student’s home, will be provided on-going support from the Literacy Coordinator & Adult Education Center Team, will be required to document and submit information from each tutoring session, and are a vital part of the IECC Adult Volunteer Literacy Project



Each volunteer literacy tutor must complete 12 hours of literacy tutor training before tutoring.

Training is completed on your own time, at your own pace, and can be completed on paper or online.

Description

The purpose of Adult Volunteer Literacy Programs is to provide literacy instruction to adult learners who test below 9th grade equivalency level using trained literacy tutors.

Our goal is to provide quality literacy instruction in reading, writing, math and English language to adults who lack basic academic skills enabling them to fully engage in family work and community roles.

We serve the entire Illinois Eastern Community Colleges district which includes all of Crawford, Edwards, Lawrence, Richland, and Wabash Counties; most of Wayne County and limited areas of Clark, Clay, Cumberland, Hamilton, Jasper, and White Counties
