ORGANIZATION: Literacy Connections of the Hudson Valley

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

Literacy Connections’ volunteers hold a special place in our community. These are individuals who give of their time and passion for reading, to share the gift of literacy with their neighbors.

Volunteer teams currently provide drop-in classes for speakers of other languages throughout Columbia and Greene Counties. We serve all adults who wish to improve their reading and writing, regardless of education and language background, with free, confidential, tutoring and classes.

No previous teaching experience is necessary, only a love of reading, and a desire to share the gift of literacy. New volunteers are required to attend a free orientation session, and complete the training modules online, which can be adapted to fit most schedules. Trained volunteers are provided ongoing support as they work with students and classes.

Our next Orientation Session will be held at the Hudson Area Library, Wednesday, December 12 th from 3:30 - 5:30 pm. The follow-up session is scheduled for Wednesday, January 16 th 2019, from 3:30 - 5:30 pm at the same location. At the Orientation session you will learn about Literacy Connections, tutoring and other volunteer opportunities, and receive your login information to begin the online tutor training module.

You can sign up for the Tutor Training by e-mail to colgreene@literacyconnections.org or by calling 518-828-1792 ext 104. Please provide your name, e-mail address, phone number and area where you would like to volunteer when registering.
