The Orange County District Attorney (OCDA) represents the People of the State of California in all criminal and civil proceedings, serves the court and criminal justice system and the Orange County Grand Jury. The mission of the Office is to enhance public safety and welfare and create a sense of security in the community through the vigorous enforcement of criminal and civil laws in a just, honest, efficient and ethical manner. The Office consists of three major divisions: Legal, Investigative Bureau and Administration.

Intern Duties/Responsibilities:

Duties may include one or more of the following assignments or projects:

  • Assist with scanning and filing of personnel documents;
  • Help prepare new hire packets;
  • Assist with scheduling interviews and making recruitment packets;
  • Assist with distribution of biennial service pins;
  • Develop working knowledge of HR information databases and searchable sources; and
  • Prepare Word and Excel documents.

Educational Requirements:

This internship is best suited for students or recent graduates with an interest in pursuing a career in the public sector, especially in areas related to human resources, public administration, business, communications or related fields, and/or in gaining experience within an office/administrative environment.

Skills, Training or Qualifications:

The District Attorney's Office is seeking applicants with the following qualification:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills:
  • Highly organized and dependable;
  • Eager to gain professional experience;
  • Able to complete assignments in a timely manner;
  • Reliable, outgoing and able to work independently; and
  • Experience in using the Internet and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel.

Time Commitment:

Immediate placement is available
. Minimum 10 - 20 hours per week for 3 or more months. Hours must be scheduled during normal business hours (Monday - Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.). Applicants able to schedule the maximum hours/duration listed for the internship typically gain a more in-depth experience.

Benefits Available to the Intern:

Although this is an unpaid internship that does not lead to paid employment or include employee benefits, students and recent graduates are offered an excellent opportunity to:

  • Build resumes/hands-on experience and explore a career in local government, administrative services and the human resources field.
  • Learn administrative practices and the workings of a human resources office, including the employee onboarding process, employee records maintenance/retention and employee recognition.
  • Network with human resources and administrative services professionals.
