Orange County’s Office on Aging serves as the lead advocate for 400,000 older adults residing in the county, with a specific focus on low-income ethnic minorities. As an advocate, the Office on Aging is responsible for understanding the needs of Orange County’s older adults and utilizing the federal funding and programs available to meet those requirements. In addition, the Office on Aging is charged with directing or participating in coalitions to drive new ideas, services, and legislation in support of Older Adults. Finally, the department is to take a proactive view and help those in the senior services industry, public and private, plan for the future needs of this populace.

Intern Duties/Responsibilities:

Intern will support the Office on Aging team through the distribution and collection of data/surveys from various sites within Orange County. The intern may also assist in data entry and with follow-up communications via email or phone.

Duties may include assisting staff with one or more of the following assignments or projects:

  • Provide administrative support by preparing electronic files, spreadsheets, reports and PowerPoint presentations.
  • Conduct research and analysis and draft reports/findings on special projects.
  • Participate in day-to-day operations.

Educational Requirements:

Internship is best suited for college students or recent graduates with an interest in pursuing a career in the public sector and/or in gaining experience within an office/administrative environment.

Skills, Training or Qualifications:

The Office on Aging is seeking applicants with the following qualifications:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Highly organized and dependable
  • Eager to gain professional experience
  • Able to complete assignments in a timely manner
  • Reliable, outgoing and able to work independently
  • Experienced in Internet use and Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher and Outlook
  • Current driver's license and reliable transportation is required.

Time Commitment:

Minimum 10 - 20 hours per week for 3 or more months. Hours must be scheduled during normal business hours (Monday - Friday between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.). Applicants able to schedule the maximum hours/duration listed for the internship typically gain a more in-depth experience.
