Start The Adventure In Reading (STAIR) is a twice-weekly, after school literacy tutoring program for Anne Arundel County Public Schools second graders currently reading below grade level. Tutors work one-on-one with a student for an hour-long session, and we offer our volunteers the flexibility to choose their level of commitment: one day per week, two days per week, or as a substitute on an as-needed basis. We have 12 sites conveniently located at elementary schools and community centers across Annapolis and throughout Anne Arundel County, and have more than 100 children enrolled in our program. We provide an educator-approved curriculum, tutoring materials, training, and on-going support to ensure you feel well-prepared from your very first session. STAIR is actively looking for volunteers to serve as tutors; we are also looking for volunteers who may be interested in the role of site coordinator or co-coordinator.
