ORGANIZATION: Gifford Cat Shelter

  • 2 people are interested

Gifford Cat Shelter is the oldest no-kill cat shelter in the country. Since the late 1800’s, it has saved the lives of thousands of cats while providing them with excellent care and pairing them with great adopters. The shelter is located in Brighton near Boston College and the green line. It is managed by an Executive Director, a small staff, and a group of dedicated volunteers.

The Gifford Board of Directors is seeking candidates to serve as Board Treasurer. The current Treasurer is remaining on the board in a different capacity. This is a key role, with responsibility for oversight of Gifford’s financial affairs. Key duties include but aren’t limited to active engagement in board meetings, work with board and Executive Director to develop financial plans and annual budgets, knowledge of and oversight of the shelter’s financial operations, and review of annual financial statements and tax filings. Candidates should have a passion for animals, an ability to work well with the entire Gifford community, and a willingness to commit required time to the organization. As a hands-on board, the time commitment includes attendance at board meetings and preparation for them, involvement in various fundraising events, and assistance with financial activities tied to the operation of the shelter, including communication with the shelter’s accounting firm. Candidates should possess experience with non-profit accounting and/or bookkeeping and a familiarity with QuickBooks.
