ORGANIZATION: Oakland Nature Preserve

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

It's time for the 21st Annual Oakland Heritage Festival! The Festival will feature live entertainment, cultural presentations, wildlife exhibitors, boat tours, hay rides and activities for kids. This is Oakland Nature Preserve's biggest fundraiser of the year!

We need volunteers to help with many activities, such as: setting up chairs and tables, helping exhibitors set-up, helping with the children's activities, cleaning up after the event and more.

Volunteering will be split into shifts, you can sign up for one or many shifts, and you'll be able to enjoy the Festival on your break(s).

Once you express interest in volunteering, our outreach coordinator will send you more information so that you can sign up for the activity and shift(s) that are best for you.

About Oakland Nature Preserve

Location:

747 Machete Trail, Oakland, FL 34760, US

Mission Statement

Our Mission: To promote understanding of the fragile balances between mankind and the environment by EDUCATING present and future generations about natural ecosystems of Lake Apopka Basin and by RESTORING and CONSERVING the lands within the Preserve.

Description

The Oakland Nature Preserve is a 128-acre preserve located just west of Orlando, Florida in the town of Oakland, situated on the south shore of Lake Apopka . The Preserve was created to inspire people of all ages to become good stewards of the natural environment, by providing a place to explore and learn about the history and ecology of Central Florida. We offer several hiking trails through oak and pine forests, and a beautifully shaded boardwalk leading through natural wetlands to a covered pavilion on Lake Apopka. Our sustainably-built Visitor & Environmental Education Center offer live animal exhibits, a cultural and natural history museum, a lecture hall for educational programs, and a shaded serenity porch complete with rocking chairs for your relaxation between hikes!

Since the late 1990’s, volunteers have donated thousands of hours to ONP habitat restoration, fund raising, and education. Oakland Nature Preserve’s continued success is not possible without the generosity and dedication of our volunteers. The 128 acre Preserve and the Environmental Education Center offer a number of opportunities for people to help us accomplish our mission.
