Join Newcomers Crew to serve 5-7 year old youth who live in the greater Pittsburgh area and recently moved here from Congo, Burma, and Afghanistan.
COVID-19 has prevented English learners from the daily English immersion normally obtained at school. Therefore, JFCS has created programming to help these youth with English learning while also developing social/emotional skills, creative expression, and more.
The program meets each Monday evening from 4-5:30 pm. Each mentor is matched to an mentee and works with the child in a breakout room for about an hour, with brief group time at the beginning and end of sessions. JFCS provides mentors with a curriculum to follow each week as well as a handbook. Training will be on the evening of Wednesday, January 6th.
To become a mentor, contact Andrew to set up a conversation at avantreeck@jfcspgh.org
