ORGANIZATION: The Columbus Historical Society

Calling all volunteers! Join The Columbus Historical Society (CHS) and be a part of history! We are in need of docents to assist us in telling the story of our great city and World War I.

Our exhibits are open Tuesday and Friday 10 am-2 pm and Sunday 12:30 pm-4 pm. Volunteers must be able to help for at least a two hour time block during these time frames. Weekly or flexible schedule available.

Duties:

1) Provide exhibit tours to visitors of all ages. The docents will be the primary educational outreach to students, visitors, and the Columbus community. Greet and provide customer service to guests visiting the exhibit.

2) Maintain and service exhibit as needed. The exhibit has interactive components, gallery docents will work with public to explain exhibit and assist them in their participation.

3) This is a hands-on position working with the guests who visit the CHS exhibit and providing additional guest support to enhance the overall experience.

Preferred Qualifications

* Highly prefer a volunteer with strong customer service experience.

* Interest in history.

Description

The Columbus Historical Society puts on several porgrams throughout the year on different topics related to the history of Columbus. We have also published a children's book that has been used in local school systems for teaching Columbus history.

Additionally, we maintain a gallery in the Jefferson Center showcasing different collection of artifacts, papers, artwork related to Columbus.

Our goals as an organization are -

  • Build awareness of Columbus and Central Ohio history
  • Create an expanded exhibit space
  • Create an accessible archive to protect artifacts
  • Improve access to Central Ohio history via publications, the internet and site visits
