PROGRAM SUMMARY:

Senior Services strives to create a safe, welcoming, and respectful community where Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender people in their 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and beyond can come together to learn, connect, and build friendships, gain support, and thrive!

Case Managers help clients identify goals, needs, and resources. From initial assessment, the case manager and the client work together to formulate a plan to meet those goals. More specifically, your Case Manager provides clients with resources pertaining to housing, employment, and legal services. Case Managers may serve as advocates on behalf of a client to obtain needed services. Case Managers maintain consistent communication with the client to evaluate whether the plan is effective in meeting the client’s goals.

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the coordination of the Manager of Social Services and as part of the Seniors Services team, the American Sign Language Interpreter will assist the case management staff with interpretation during scheduled appointments with clients who are hearing impaired and/or per client’s request. As needed, interpreters may be used to facilitate communication between clients and case managers with clients’ informed consent. Interpreters will follow the same standards of confidentiality as case managers. Essential functions will include, but are not limited to the following:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide ASL interpretation between case manager and client
  • Facilitate communication between case managers and clients with the clients’ informed consent
  • Provide case managers with schedule of availability
  • Maintain all information discussed in case management meetings pertaining to the client and their situation confidential

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Responsible, respectful and dependable
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, ages, sexual orientation and genders in a multicultural setting
  • Experience working with the LGBT community and familiarity with issues of relevance to LGBT people
  • Experience providing interpretation in a professional setting
  • Ability to work hands-on with seniors in an appropriate manner
  • Ability to communicate fluently and effectively using ASL

TRAINING, EDUCATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

  • American Sign Language Certification preferred, but not required.
